What Happens to Your Roof When Solar Panels Are Installed?

Solar panels can be a smart investment, but your roofer needs to be part of the conversation before installation begins.

Adding a solar array changes how your commercial roof is accessed, loaded, maintained, and repaired. Mounting systems may create new penetrations or attachment points, while increased foot traffic during installation can potentially damage roofing materials. Once panels are in place, reaching areas underneath them for inspections or repairs can also become more difficult.

Before installing solar, have the existing roof professionally evaluated. If the roof is nearing the end of its service life, it may make financial sense to restore or replace it first rather than pay to remove and reinstall solar panels for future roofing work.

A little planning can help ensure two major building investments work well together for years to come.

At Hygrade, we look at the whole picture to help you protect your building, avoid unnecessary costs, and plan for the long term.
